The STAIRS Consortium successfully convened its 3rd Annual Consortium Meeting in Maputo, Mozambique, from 17th to 21st November 2025, bringing together researchers, healthcare professionals, and implementation partners from across participating consortium countries.

The annual meeting served as an important platform for sharing progress, lessons learned, and experiences from the ongoing implementation of the STAIRS project across different countries. More than 100 participants attended the opening day, reflecting the growing regional commitment towards strengthening health systems and improving the fight against sepsis.
The official opening ceremony was presided over by Dr. Eduardo Samo Gudo, Director General of the National Institute of Health (NHI) Mozambique, who emphasized the importance of teamwork, collaboration, and knowledge sharing in advancing sepsis prevention and care across the region. In his remarks, he encouraged consortium members to continue working collectively towards achieving impactful and sustainable health outcomes.
The meeting featured a series of technical sessions, panel discussions, and expert roundtable engagements where participating countries presented updates on STAIRS implementation status, successes, challenges, and innovative approaches being adopted within their respective settings.
One of the highlights of the meeting was the first expert roundtable discussion, which brought together distinguished specialists and researchers, including Dr. Shaving, to discuss key priorities and opportunities for strengthening sepsis research and implementation efforts.
The event also celebrated the rich cultural heritage of Mozambique through cultural performances showcased during the opening ceremony, creating an atmosphere of unity and shared purpose among consortium members.
As host of the annual meeting, Dr. Ivalda Macicame, Principal Investigator and lead of the STAIRS implementation project in Mozambique, welcomed delegates and reaffirmed the importance of regional collaboration in driving impactful research and healthcare interventions.
The STAIRS Annual Meeting continues to provide a valuable opportunity for consortium partners to strengthen partnerships, exchange knowledge, and align efforts towards improving healthcare delivery and sepsis response across participating countries.
